Common Reasons For Dental Implant Complications

  • Improper Placement Surgery – Dental Implant Surgeons cutting costs by using cheaper, low quality materials and not accurately treating the patient within the surgical guides, 3-D scans, and necessary gum and bone grafting to properly place the implant in the correct and healthy location.
  • “Discount” Implant Clinics with poorly or inadequately trained dentists performing dental implant surgery beyond their education/training.  Sometimes the tooth implant special or deal and cheap price is paid again and again by the patient with post surgical dental implant problems.
  • Cleanliness and Sterile Surgical Environment
Keep in mind that going to a dental implant mill may save on cost, but in the long run, it often leads to more expensive dental restoration procedures to correct the implant complications or replace your tooth implants.

Complications During Healing Period After Implant Placement

For your dental implants to adhere properly to the surrounding bone, they need to be surrounded by healthy gum tissue and sufficient bone mass.. Many factors contribute to the tooth implants ability to stay attached to the bone.

An example is the dental implant can become loose during the healing process after your dental implant placement. If this happens, there is usually no pain or infection. Dr. Winson often sees this situation when dental implants are placed near the molars in the upper jaw, on tooth extraction areas, sections of the mouth that have had bone grafting, in the lower front of the jaw, usually because those areas often have poor quality of bone. Patients who smoke or who have poorly controlled diabetes may also be more likely to have issues with the bone surrounding their dental implants.

Complications During Use Of Your Teeth

Your dental implants may develop issues after the healing period. If the bone cannot handle the everyday wear and tear, the forces being applied to it, your tooth implant can become loose. To treat this problem, Dr. Dennis E, Winson generally will have to remove the dental implant and allow the bone to fill in the area. This complication may require either dental laser or bone grafting treatments, and you will likely be put under local anesthesia. Once the area is healed and it is determined their is sufficient bone to support a new tooth implant, Dr. Winson will replace the abutment.

As Dental Implant complications are becoming more common. Listed below are some of the tooth implant difficulties:

Dental implant Fails To Connect

Tooth Implants often are set in the wrong position or placed where there is not enough surrounding bone to support the dental implants. In some cases, the dental implant is placed properly but the bone surrounding it fails to accept the implant. Either way, failure to integrate leads to implant instability and the tooth / teeth will become loose. This issue often opens the door to infection when tooth placement or bone integration is flawed. Peri-implantitis is know by the infection of the gums with bone loss around the effected tooth implants.  Generally dental implant disease is caused by several factors. Some of which include:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Dental cement for the crown getting under the gum line
    Smoking
  • Diabetes or other health issues
  • Bite alignment problems putting excessive pressure on the dental implant
  • Failure to diagnose and graft if necessary sufficient bone or gum tissue to support the dental implant
